Question:
This patient has upper crowding of moderate severity. There is moderate rotation of the UL1 and UL3 and the arch is narrow. The width of the UR1 is 9.4mm. Is this case suitable for treatment with an upper Inman Aligner?

Answer:
This case is treatable with an Inman Aligner, but it is not an ideal first case as it can be challenging. Spacewize analysis reveals that there is 4.3mm of crowding. Treatment of such cases will require the use of an Inman Aligner with an incorporated midline Expander followed by two Clear Aligners. IPR is performed from the mesial of the UR4 to the mesial of the UL3 at every appointment during the time that the patient is wearing the Inman Aligner. The patient will need to turn the screw on the Expander once a week. Once the incisors are aligned, new impressions need to be taken to make Clear Aligners that will be used to push the UL3 into line. Make sure to do a some more IPR around the UL3 at this time. It is also a good idea to place a composite anchor on the rotated canine. This case will be really simple once you have mastered using the Inman Aligner, but it is not the best case for beginnners.
