Question:
This patient had severe crowding of her lower incisors. Her treatment with the Inman Aligner was successful in aligning her lower four incisors. However, the position of the mesiolabially rotated canine remained the same throughout her treatment. Is it possible to derotate the canine?

Answer:
The canine can be derotated with the use of a Clear Aligner. To achieve this, bond little composite wings on the mesial and distal inclines of the canine cusp turning the tooth into more of a square than a triangle/conical shape. Then take an impression and ask for a Clear Aligner to derotate the tooth; only one or two will be needed for this case. It is a brilliant way of rotating canines. This is usually covered in the Advanced Inman Course. The patient must wear the Inman right up until the day that you fit the Clear Aligner, as the IA keeps the ligament nice and wide. If you tried doing this before the IA, you would struggle.
